Sequences

Below are a selection of links to sequences I filmed for various productions.

Planet Earth III: Freshwater

This is easily one of the most incredible behaviours I have ever seen. I did not quite believe that these fish actually played dead to catch their prey but the proof is on the screen. They were a very tough species to film being so small and they move very quickly. The visibility during this shoot was also terrible so finding the little guys was made even more difficult.

Planet Earth III: Coasts

The Garter Snakes of British Columbia hunt in the ocean during the Summer. It was amazing to watch this behaviour and really surprised me as the water is so cold in that area. The snakes could not see anything underwater but must have still been able to smell so they could navigate and find their prey.

Planet Earth III: Deserts and Grasslands

I spent 3 weeks out on the Russian steppe filming the Saiga during their annual rut. They are an incredible species and it was amazing to film them. Getting close to them was extremely challenging as they are very skittish and they can see a very long way across such flat land.

Planet Earth III: Oceans

I have filmed Frog fish many times before but this was the first time for TV. They are an amazingly quirky animal with some incredible adaptations. They are so well camouflaged that they were very difficult to find each day for filming.

Planet Earth III: Oceans

Blue sharks come to feed on Flying Fish eggs in the middle of the ocean. It was very challenging to film the Flying Fish taking flight and we had to be incredibly patient for the Blue Sharks to come in and feed on the eggs. The hard work paid off as we got the sequence in the end.

Frozen Planet II: Frozen Worlds

This was the result of one of my favourite shoots of all time. Four weeks watching the enormous Store glacier in Greenland slowly edge to the sea and create giant ice bergs. Most of the long lens shots and some of the drone shots are mine in this one but overall a fantastic team effort, I just got lucky with timings.

The Green Planet: Seasons

It was a great pleasure to film a lot of this fantastic dandelion sequence. We did a lot of studio filming for this sequence and it was a lot of fun set dressing and getting creative with the lighting.

The Green Planet: Seasons

In the middle of the Covid pandemic I had the great pleasure to work on The Green Planet. Most of the time we were filming in studios but for this shoot I got to go to South Africa and film a wild fire. This has to be one of the scariest and most incredible things I have ever seen. It truly terrifies me that with climate change, events like these will become a lot more common and far more destructive.

Tiny World: Meadows

I had a week filming mice to get these shots of them stretching between grass stems. They are very challenging little things to film, always scurrying in the wrong directions but finally got what we wanted. Great team effort.

Tiny World: Meadows

It was a great pleasure to assist and film along side Rod Clark on this sequence. My main contributions to this one were the slow motion Bees and the Queen walking along the ground.

Tiny World: Ponds

Many early mornings and false starts went into capturing the dragonfly emergence for this episode. Over the course of 5 weeks I set several time-lapse cameras to capture dragonfly nymphs climbing the stem and transforming into dragonflies.

Big Cat Country

One of the main story archs in Big Cat Country followed these four young male Lions as they tried to take over a pride. On this day their leader, Thor, was found running over the river to rejoin his coallition having been put in his place.

Big Cat Country

After smelling a Hippo carcas the Nomads move north where a tense stand off with the Hollywood pride begins.

Big Cat Country

One of the most exciting events I have ever filmed:  A pride of lions taking down a buffalo. This was only my second day of filming on location and I feel incredibly fortunate to have witnessed such an event.

Big Cat Country

Back in 2018 I had the great pleasure of filming some lion cubs in Zambia  and here is one of the sequences my footage contributed to. Amazing to think that things this cute grow up to be some of the fiercest predators on the planet.

Wild City Forest Life

A fantastic sequence that was filmed by myself and the producer of a Draco Lizard feeding, finding a mate and then escaping danger.

Wild City Forest Life

A sequence founded in luck.  This snake species mating ball has never been seen in the wild before and I was fortunate enough to have my camera with me.

Wild City Forest Life

I had a huge amount of fun filming these Squirrels running around the tree tops on the hunt for fruit and then finding a Lesser Mouse Deer in the day was a stroke of fortune.

Whilst filming a troop of Langurs a young one got seperated from the group during a storm. Thankfully it all ended happily.
